A Vietnam Vet Gets Saved

Recently, Ron Godfrey, one of our staff members, was prompted to reach out to a group of homeless men living under a bridge. He climbed down an embankment and under some overgrown bushes to where the men were gathered. He was greeted by a 9 mm gun. The man behind it demanded to know what Ron was doing there.

Ron told him he just wanted to give them some water. Another man from the group spoke up and identified himself as Phil, a down-and-out Vietnam vet (whom Ron later found out to be a Crystal Meth user for 17 years). He challenged Ron mockingly, “So what are you going to do for me?” Shaking his food stamps and Valley Services cards he said, “These things have done nothing for me and now you want to help me? Yeah right. What can you do?”

Ron responded by sharing his testimony mixed with the truth of the “I Am Not God” message from SALT. He challenged Phil to give up and let God be God. In the end, Phil accepted Christ as his personal Savior. He is now off the street and getting help from the Veterans Association.

We applaud Ron’s courage and those like him and we thank God for His truth that brings real freedom from real bondages.
