Pre Seminar Checklist
□ Read through the Parental workbook from the SALT series and answer the questions.
□ Review the lesson notes in the SALT Instructor’s Guide in preparation to teach each of the four lessons from the Parental Area of Life. Review notes on Leading a SALT Group beginning on page iv of the SALT Instructor’s Guide.
□ In I Want to Teach You What I Believe review the introductory pages on pages 7-10 as well as Lesson Two, Session 1 on pages 27-31. Familiarize yourself with the layout of the book. This will prepare you to teach the discipling your children portion of the Parental Seminar.
□ Make sure you have the Parental workbook from the SALT series and an I Want to Teach You What I Believe book available for each person attending the workshop.
□ Gather the following supplies: name tags, paper, and pens for taking notes.
□ Have a whiteboard, overhead projector or PowerPoint projector for displaying the diagrams.

Seminar Elements
Registration and Fellowship (20 minutes)
□ Hand out or have people purchase the Parental workbook from the SALT series.
□ Give everyone a name tag as well as paper and pen for taking notes.
□ Have drinks and snacks available, if desired.
Welcome (10 minutes)
□ Welcome all those attending the seminar.
□ Explain seminar schedule (teaching, activities, group time, breaks, and lunch).
□ Prayer
Parental Chapter One – Parenting Styles (30 minutes)
□ Draw diagram and teach from the Lesson Notes beginning on page 169 of the SALT Instructor’s Guide.
Activity – Sharing and Praying (15 minutes)
□ “Tell your spouse what your current parenting style is based on the Parenting Quiz. Pray together asking God to show you how to become a more effective parent.”
Break (10 minutes)
Parental Chapter Two – Acceptance First (30 minutes)
□ Draw diagram and teach from the Lesson Notes beginning on page 175 of the SALT Instructor’s Guide.
Activity - Personal Study (25 minutes)
□ Have participants answer the questions in Chapter Two of their Parental workbooks.
Group Discussion (40 minutes)
□ Lead a group discussion of Parental Lessons One and Two. Follow the Group Guides on pages 114 and 122 of the SALT Instructor’s Guide.
Lunch (1 hour)
Parental Chapter Three – Accountability Second (30 minutes)
□ Draw diagram and teach from the Lesson Notes beginning on page 183 of the SALT Instructor’s Guide.
Activity – Study Time (20 minutes)
□ As a couple, go through the questions in Chapter Three of the Parental workbook and talk about the action steps you will take to see your children grow into healthy mature adults.
Group Discussion (25 minutes)
□ Lead a group discussion of Parental Lesson Three. Follow the Group Guide on page 182 of the SALT Instructor’s Guide.
Break (10 minutes)
Parental Chapter Four – Reaching Fulfilled Adulthood (30 minutes)
□ Draw diagram and teach from the Lesson Notes beginning on page 189 of the SALT Instructor’s Guide.
Individual Activity - Repentance (15 minutes)
□ Give participants time to pray and repent of the ways they are parenting that do not benefit their children.
Introduction to I Want to Teach You What I Believe (15 minutes)
□ Share the goals for discipling your own child from page 7 in I Want to Teach You What I Believe.
□ Share the “How To’s” for teaching the curriculum on pages 9-10 in I Want to Teach You What I Believe.
I Want to Teach You What I Believe – Session 2, Lesson 1 (35 minutes)
□ Demonstrate how to disciple your child by teaching Lesson 2, Session 1 on pages 27-31 of I Want to Teach You What I Believe.
□ Allow time for question and answers regarding the I Want to Teach You What I Believe book.
Sharing and Prayer (30 minutes)
□ “Would anyone like to share what impacted you the most today?”
□ Encourage each parent to go through the Parental workbook in the following weeks and answer the questions. End the seminar by praying for the families that are represented.
